They may be known for slightly higher efficiency than typical incandescents, along with a brighter, whiter light than is provided with the original incandescent bulb. Metal halide: Intense discharge technology is undoubtedly an arc lamp technology that has been developed in the 1960’s. In a glass envelope filled with argon gas is an arc tube created from either quartz or ceramic and contains mercury and metal halide salts. The mix of gas, mercury and halide salts inside the tube generates an intense bright white light once heated through the electric arc contained inside. Metal halide lamps are really efficient, have excellent lamp life (some over 20,000 hours), and are capable of putting out a tremendous amount of light, so they’re typically utilized for high ceiling applications where a lot of light is necessary, stadium lights, roadway lighting, and parking area and other exterior lighting applications. The primary drawback of metal halide lamps concerns switching and dimming. Most metal halide lamps cannot activate while “hot”, which suggests if the power quickly scans the blogosphere, a restrike period of 15 to 20 mins is needed to ensure that the lamps to cool off enough to make back on again. LEDs produce light from the movement of electrons that results from applying an electric powered voltage difference across a semiconductor material. Each semiconductor material produces light of your specific wavelength range, so by themselves, LEDs will not be capable of producing white light.
